We at Rockett Drum Works listen to the customer. We offer a variety of ways that we can build your dream kit or snare drum, but we also have a few ideas of our own. Every Rockett Drum Works product is made with components we have personally tested.
When we started looking into the idea of producing our own lugs we were faced with a variety of options. One of the most common choices for a drum company is to outsource to places like China. We choose to make ours at a local machine shop here in Southern California. There are many philosophies and principals about drum lugs and many of us custom builders love to argue our point. Debate often leads to good solutions and that is the reason we came up with the Rockett Drum Works "Lug Nut" lug. Astetically, it looks similar to a small automobile lug nut. It is single point and has a collar that protrudes through the wood, then attaches with a screw. We do not typically use rubber grommets or gaskets. We believe that the lug and the wood will vibrate more effectively without the use of a gasket.
We have recently taken that same idea and are ready to produce a similar lug that will be used for our floor tom legs and eventually our bass drum spurs as well. Rockett Drum Works is also proud to offer customers Drum Workshop floor tom legs and bass drum spurs as another custom choice for those drummers who prefer the familiar DW hardware. All of our drum hardware is 100% guaranteed against normal wear and tear.
Quality is our goal. Rockett Drum Works offers several choices when it comes to shell choices and they are ALL good choices:
We do wraps and we do them well. You will be blown away by the choices available today. We do custom wraps as well as old standard sparkles and pearls. Wraps are perfect for the gigging and touring artist. They hold up well and look great night after night.
Stains are a great way to preserve the natural look of wood, get protection and of course some bling. We use top quality stains in a variety of colors and various top coats ranging from matte finishes to high gloss. If you have a fetish for beautiful wood, the un-incumbered tone of a natural drum shell, but want a little extra pizzaz, a stain may be the way to go for you.
Rikki Rockett has become synonymous with elaborate paint jobs as far back as 1986 with the wild Space ship Pearl kit featured in the Poison classic, "Talk Dirty To Me". Rockett Drum Works has now become ground zero for Rikki's crazy, classic and sometimes outlandishly freakish paint schemes. Incorporating several artistic styles including airbrush, pinstriping and faux finishes, Rockett Drum Works is clearly the leader in the custom paint game. Rockett Drum Works commissions several painters and artists from all over the country and Rikki even pulls out the brush now and again making some truly custom drums.
Today's paints are highly durable, but not as durable as a wrap. Painting is usually the most expensive finish, but has the most custom possibilities. Paint can sometimes be hard to match making this choice more difficult for drummers with poor cases or who don't handle their own gear to fix a flaw.
Rockett Drum Works uses triple flange, die cast and wood hoops.
